Bannockburn proposals split opinion
Stirling Observer
|June 04, 2025
The harness racing track plans were originally narrowly approved by Stirling Council's planning panel in July 2024 after then chair Councillor Rachel Nunn used her casting vote to get the proposals over the line.

However, Scottish ministers had already taken the unusual step of saying they would step in if the councillors were "minded to approve" the application for the site, where Robert the Bruce famously defeated Edward II's English army in 1314.
The controversial bid had split public opinion and of 99 representations lodged, 39 were objections and 60 were in support.
An online petition at Change.org against the development, set up by a local residents' group, also reached more than 650 signatories.
Historic Environment Scotland had initially raised concerns, but after a further assessment were said to be "broadly content that given the fairly light touch nature and limited visual impact of the proposed infrastructure, it would not have a significant setting impact".
