Wales have to work... but Moore's strike gives them a win

WALES secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kazakhstan in Astana as Kieffer Moore’s first-half goal proved the difference in their latest 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The win puts Wales top of Group J after five matches, however they have played more games than their rivals and will have to see how results pan out elsewhere over the next few days to see just how important that win in Astana was.

Craig Bellamy’s side made a strong start at the Astana Arena, controlling possession and looking to make inroads down the flanks.

Sorba Thomas and Harry Wilson both caused problems early on, while debutant Dylan Lawlor impressed greatly with his composure at the back.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half.

Wilson's free-kick was glanced on by Liam Cullen, forcing Temirlan Anarbekov into a low save.

The Kazakhstan goalkeeper could only push the ball into the path of Moore, who calmly tucked home on his 50th cap to put Wales ahead.
