Views sought on strategy to tackle child sexual abuse

EVERY year, some 25,000 children and young people in Wales are sexually abused - and the Welsh Government is seeking the public's views on a long-term approach to addressing this enormous social problem.

The Welsh Government says its planned decade-long framework for preventing and tackling child sexual abuse represents the UK's first thorough long-term approach of this nature.

Dawn Bowden, the Minister for Children and Social Care, emphasised that “the voices of people” affected by sexual abuse would remain at the heart of the strategy and its implementation.

Public consultation on the draft framework continues until September, with the Welsh Government planning for the strategy to operate through to 2035.
