THIS past week I had the joy and privilege of being invited to a private screening at the Swansea.com Stadium of a new documentary about one of Swansea's great footballing legends, someone considered by most to be the finest player ever to wear the Swans shirt.

The documentary about Ivor Allchurch, a Swans’ homegrown legend, is titled Ivor Allchurch - Golden Days and is a personal account of his life and career told from his family’s perspective, commissioned by the Swansea City Supporters’ Trust and made by filmmakers David Brayley and Max Webborn, both die-hard Swans’ supporters.

The film is a personal account of Ivor’s life and career, told by those who knew him best including his wife Esme and sons John and David.

Ivor has been described as the “golden boy of Welsh soccer” and is acknowledged as one of Wales’ most talented footballers.

If I was a poet or creative writer I might describe Ivor as “a skilful inside-forward, thrilling crowds with his wide range of passing, hypnotic body swerve, and deadly shooting”. He was described as “tall, blond, strong, and elegant, a master of the defence-splitting pass”.

However, I'll be content with just saying that he was an amazing footballer blessed with skills that wowed crowds at every club he played for and of course for his country Wales.
