'Penguins don't belong in prisons!' 300 protest over gentoos kept in basement

CELEBRITIES joined up to 300 protesters demanding that an aquarium move its penguins from their basement enclosure which lacks fresh air or daylight.

Naturalist Chris Packham, green businessman Dale Vince and Undertones star Feargal Sharkey issued rallying calls for the 15 gentoos to be freed from Sea Life London Aquarium yesterday.

Chris said: "It's heartbreaking to think these remarkable penguins, birds built for icy seas and vast skies, are confined to a windowless London basement. Penguins don't belong in prisons.

"Today, we've sent a message loud and clear - the public will not accept the exploitation of animals for profit under the guise of entertainment. It's time to free the fifteen!"

Shameful

Protesters, including children, held placards demanding the penguins' freedom while chanting "Free the fifteen" as well as "What do we want? Penguin freedom. When do we want it? Now!"
