DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER YET

SYMPATHY is in short supply for Russell Martin right now - and given their early season form - domestically, at least - it’s no wonder.

- By Scott McDermott

Certainly, as he walked off the pitch in Paisley after Sunday’s dismal 1-1 draw with St Mirren, the Gers punters were in no mood to feel sorry for their new gaffer.

Martin is under pressure.

He’s doing a good job at looking calm and composed but, deep down, he'll be feeling the heat.

And whatever has gone on behind the scenes at Ibrox in the early part of his tenure, there can be no excuses for not being able to beat the likes of Dundee at home.

But this latest Hamza Igamane debacle topped off a turbulent 83 days in charge.

And just maybe, the Rangers boss deserves to be cut a tiny bit of slack before the transfer window finally shuts on Monday.

He’s already signed nine new players and there will be more on the way before facing Celtic in the first Old Firm derby — especially with £10million pocketed from the sale of the Moroccan striker.

When the dust finally settles on September 1, Martin will have the squad he wants to work with — and then he’ll be expected to deliver.
