A grand way to guarantee wedded bliss
Scottish Daily Express
|March 19, 2025
WITH the end of the tax year fast approaching on April 5, married couples and civil partners are being urged to check whether they qualify for the Marriage Allowance.
This often-overlooked tax break could save eligible couples up to £252 annually, and those who act now may be able to backdate their claims for up to four years, unlocking savings of more than £1,000 in total if eligible.
Google searches for the Marriage Allowance have surged by 66% since the autumn Budget, reflecting growing awareness of its benefits.
But with processing delays expected as the April 6 deadline nears, Neil Dutta, managing director at engagement ring specialists Angelic Diamonds, is encouraging couples to apply as soon as possible.
The Marriage Allowance is a government scheme designed to reduce the tax bill of eligible couples by allowing one partner to transfer part of their personal allowance to the other.

Online's fine for wine with these tips
BUYING wine online can be just as daunting as walking into a shop. That was the conclusion of a recent article in Decanter magazine. And they’re not wrong. If anything, I find the endless choice, plus variations in the information available, even more daunting. At least in a traditional bricks-and-mortar shop, you can ask for help or pick up the bottle and read the label!
