Op skool was Ruan Ferns (20) 'n doodgewone leerder wat nie baie aandag aan gymnasium-toe-gaan of sport gegee het nie.
Dit het eers ná skool verander toe hy 'n gereelde besoeker aan die gimnasium geword het.
"Ek het ná skool daar aangesluit en na 'n ruk het my oom, Danie Fourie van Lynx Arm Wrestling Club, vir my gesê ek moet dit probeer. Teen die einde van die jaar sal ek al twee jaar lank armdruk as sport beoefen," vertel hy.
In 2025 het Ruan sy eerste nasionale kompetisie bygewoon, waar hy tweede in sy afdeling geëindig het. Sedertdien het hy meer as 20 medaljes verower.
