Perth and Kinross councillors have unanimously granted a planning appeal for a dozen solar panels to be installed on a historic B-listed gate lodge.

However the applicant will need to reapply for listed building consent to install them.

The Local Review Body met to consider the appeal on Monday, June 23.

Craig McDowell Architectural Services submitted the appeal on behalf of Mr Ritchie, who sought permission to install solar panels on the roof of his gate lodge just outside Inchture.

Planning permission was refused by Perth and Kinross Council on the grounds the “modern design” of the solar panels would be both detrimental to the “traditional character” of the building and the appearance of the listed building as well as the lack of a bat survey.

In his appeal, Mr Ritchie said, while the stone-built house dated back to 1832 it had more recently had “a substantial 'in-keeping' modern brick and harled extension with Welsh Slate roof added to the rear or the building in 1985” and a modern white PVC construction was later added to the extension in 1990.
