City farm on brink of closure amid winter funding crisis

A popular Renfrewshire animal farm is "on the brink" of closure after constant battles and a rise in costs.

Lamont Farm Project has announced it is facing another fight to stay afloat after receiving reduced funding this year while supply costs have increased.

The team behind the volunteer-run farm say an “all-time low” for donations has left it close to collapse.

The city farm, the only one left in Scotland, has set up a GoFundMe page in a bid to raise enough money to get through the winter.

Running costs at Lamont are around £50,000 per year and it's a constant battle for the farm which provides free access for visitors to meet and learn about animals - to stay afloat.

A target of £3,000 is the goal to make it through the winter, with 100 per cent of the money going to the care of the animals.

Everyone who works on the farm is a volunteer, with all funds going to the more than 40 animals in their care.

Yvonne Elliot, manager at the farm, has opened up about the fight for survival.
