Circus trucks leave park a muddy mess

Huge swathes of Barshaw Park have been left unusable after articulated lorries transporting the circus churned up almost an acre of grass.

- EDEL KENEALY

The area adjacent to the car park in the much-loved Paisley green space has been left a "mud bath" following the departure of the Big Kid Circus.

The travelling company whose Kingdom of Kong show delighted local families - had set up its tent in the park between October 10 and October 19.

But as it left the site on Monday, the lorries used to transport tonnes of equipment ripped up the grass.

Renfrewshire Council has confirmed the business has accepted liability for the damage and will fund the repairs.

Councillor Graeme Clark (pictured above) has, however, warned lessons need to be learned and argued the same damage cannot be allowed to happen again.

Speaking to the Express, the Labour representative for Paisley Northeast and Ralston said: "I'm deeply disappointed by the condition in which a large section of Barshaw Park has been left following the departure of circus vehicles.

"The grass has been severely churned up, leaving what can only be described as a mud bath.
