TB, malaria, kala-azar show sharp decline; national targets met ahead of global deadlines: Anupriya

India has recorded significant progress in the control and elimination of major communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, kala-azar, and HIV among others between 2015 and 2024, the Government informed the Rajya Sabha today.

The country has met or exceeded several targets under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reflecting a strengthened and integrated public health response, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said in a written reply, citing official data from the Ministry. She said, a 17.7% reduction in TB incidence has been reported, with the case rate falling from 237 per lakh population in 2015 to 195 per lakh in 2023.
