SAPLINGS grown from the original 220-year-old Bramley apple tree have been planted across the UK to help preserve the legacy of “the world’s most famous apple”.

Pip pip hooray! Bramley sapling planted to save our famous tree

It comes after the future of the tree hangs in the balance.

For the past 10 years, Nottingham Trent University has owned the cottage where Bramley apple founder Mary Anne Brailsford planted the famous pip.

The cottages have been halls of residence for students, but in the past decade the tree has not been accessible to the public, and the surrounding garden is no longer fitting for a tree regarded as one of the most important heritage trees of the UK.
