Maynard: We need the fans behind us in final push for promotion

STUART Maynard and his Notts County players are trying to block out any negativity from the outside as they prepare for another crunch game in the League Two promotion race.

It feels as though the Magpies need a statement victory against second-placed Bradford City tonight (8pm) to keep themselves firmly in the automatic promotion conversation with just a handful of games left to play.

They have lost their last two, beaten by Colchester United and Salford City. Last Friday's 3-1 loss to the Ammies at home soured the atmosphere around the club, with some Magpies fans booing the team at the final whistle.

Maynard said the club tries to shield the team from online vitriol, much of which is often targeted at the head coach himself.

However, he hopes that most of the fanbase will remain focused on supporting the team for the final push.

"I don’t look at what is said on social media but sometimes these things come out and they get mentioned to you," said Maynard.
