Councils to submit plan for 50,000 new homes

AUTHORITIES WORKING TOGETHER ON SITES TO MEET HOUSING TARGET
A PLAN setting out where almost 50,000 homes will be built in greater Nottingham will soon be sent to the Government for review.
Nottingham city and the Broxtowe and Rushcliffe boroughs have together been drafting a strategic plan to determine the best sites for tens of thousands of homes to be built to hit targets by 2041.
Upon election, the Labour Government reintroduced mandatory housing targets for local councils after they were relaxed under the previous Conservative administration. Labour is hoping that 1.5 million new homes can be built across the country by the end of the decade - and this means Broxtowe and Rushcliffe will have to deliver hundreds more homes in their areas than previously been anticipated.
In total the three areas must deliver 47,600 homes by 2041 under what is known as the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan.
Broxtowe Borough Council has a target of 8,950 homes, while the city has 26,690 and Rushcliffe 11,960.
