City's first Indian pub to close due to rising costs

NOTTINGHAM'S first Indian pub is to close because of rising costs, despite the owner's efforts to make it viable.

The Emerald opened in Wilford in 2023 part bar and part restaurant serving desi mixed grills.

Food will no longer be served after Sunday and the pub, in Wilford Lane, will close its doors for good on May 31. Owner Rahul Savji and the team said it was with "heavy hearts", sharing a lengthy message on Facebook and Instagram explaining the reasons behind the closure.

He said: "Many may never fully understand the obstacles we faced, but we stand tall, knowing we gave everything to this venture. The Emerald was always more than just a pub it was an Indian pub, a cultural space, and a labour of love that aimed to bring something different to our community. We will forever hold dear the memories, the celebrations, and the friendships that were forged within its walls."
