Town Council accused of 'anti-trans' stance after taking flag down

BOLLINGTON Town Council has been branded 'anti-trans' by a former member in a row over which version of the Pride flag it should fly.
Johanna Maitland, also previously mayor of the town, was left 'appalled' by a discussion on the subject at a meeting on Tuesday, June 17.
The town council had begun flying the Progress Pride flag on June 1 for Pride Month as it has every year since 2021 in line with a policy Johanna has helped implement - but took it down a few days later and replaced it with the traditional rainbow Pride flag.
It followed a complaint and an agenda item at the meeting discussed gaining permission to fly the Progress flag as officially it requires planning consent.
But town council members voted not to fly the Progress flag.
