Amy crowned champ with fine birdie finish

A delighted Cheshire Ladies Captain Denise Burchell said: “The 2025 Cheshire Ladies Golf Championship was hosted this year by Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club.

“The golf course was in fabulous condition undoubtedly enhanced by the stunning setting, it has a variety of tree specimens, ponds and wildlife, and a beautiful and historic clubhouse.

“The completion of the early preliminary rounds set us up for two outstanding semi-finals.

“The defending champion Erin Parker (Styal) played our young Welsh international player, Morgan Bollan (Crewe) and Amy Anson (Prestbury), last year's runner-up played Lauren Jones (Mellor).

“Amy and Erin won through in two very competitive matches setting up the prospect of a thrilling final.

“The girls did not disappoint providing a great spectacle of fantastic golf in the presence of many supporters.

“Neither competitor gave an inch with each player showing great determination, tenacity and resilience.

“Eighteen holes were not enough to provide a winner and the pair set off once again down the first hole.

“Amy eventually defeated Erin on the second play off hole with a fine birdie.

“Erin could not have given any more in defence of her title, but congratulations go to our victor and Cheshire champion Amy Anson who now qualifies to represent Cheshire in the England golf, Champion of Champions tournament at Woodhall Spa in September.

“Cheshire Golf is a new organisation that came about following the merger, in 2024, of the county's ladies and men’s golf groups.
