Town hall and transport bosses have their say...

COUN Tracey Rawlins, Manchester council's Executive Member for Clean Air, Environment and Transport said: "We are working towards a culture shift in how we move around the city, supporting people to be less reliant on their car and encourage public transport and active travel like walking and cycling.

There are few leading global cities where unimpeded car travel into the heart of an urban area is an expectation.

"Public transport is a key part of this shift, and we have welcomed the latest stage of the Bee Network coming under public control to support cheaper and more reliable services through the city.

The city's tram network also has a key part to play, along with much-needed improvements to the region's rail links.
