THE CHIEF executive of the Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester has spoken of the moment his father barricaded the door during the terror attack outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue.
-
Two people were killed after a man, later named by police as Jahid Al-Shamie, carried out a sickening attack on Thursday.
Adrian Daulby was hit by a stray bullet from a police marksman, while security guard Melvin Cravitz was fatally injured outside the building.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Marc Levy, chief executive of the Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester and Region, spoke of the moment he realised there had been an attack as he made his way to the synagogue.
"Ordinarily we wouldn't be using our phones, but I noticed that my phone lit up way more than it normally did, and I realised very quickly that a terrorist attack happened and my father and other family members were there," he said.
"The only way I found out they were alive was when I saw them on Sky News walking in the street. It's impossible to describe.
"My father had barricaded the door to keep the terrorist out."
He said he spoke to dad on Friday (October 3), and said he was 'doing as well as can be expected'.
"Obviously the whole community has suffered a great trauma, but at the same time we are trying to get back to some normality," Mr Levy added.
"Our warnings have been ignored and it's resulting in people being attacked just because they are Jewish.
