Inspectors slam ‘concerning’ finds

A CARE home where residents were publicly weighed and their weights discussed out loud has been plunged into special measures.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has downgraded the rating for Evergreen Lodge in Birkenhead from ‘requires improvement’ to ‘inadequate’.

The care home, which provides personal and nursing care for up to 40 people, has been placed into special measures to protect people following an inspection by the CQC in March.

Among the raft of worrying finds, inspectors said people at the home were living in bedrooms that “weren't suitably clean or hygienic” and observed dirty bedding, stained pressure cushions, chairs and equipment.

The CQC said that failings in leadership at Evergreen Lodge “placed people at unnecessary risk of harm,” with leaders failing to manage the service well.
