Reds still need reinforcements - McManaman

In the end, the Reds spent £446m - the most ever spent by a Premier League club in a single window, eclipsing the £434.5m spent by Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

Alexander Isak joined for a record £125m, while Florian Wirtz, for £116.5m, and Hugo Ekitike, for £79m, both made the move to Anfield, as did young centre-back Giovanni Leoni.

The Reds also missed out on Marc Guehi, who had agreed a five-year deal with the Premier League champions on deadline day, after Crystal Palace refused to sanction the deal.

And former Liverpool midfielder Steve McManaman believes despite his old club’s summer spending, they are still in desperate need of a centre-back.
