People travel for a laugh at 'Wotsit' street

PEOPLE are coming over from Liverpool to have a laugh at Wirral's "Wotsit street" after colourful road markings hit national headlines.

Grange Road West in Birkenhead has been transformed into a one-way road to try to improve the area.

New road markings, benches, and planters have been all over social media as well as covered by the BBC, ITV, and the Daily Mail with many criticising the new look of the road. It's been described as "Wotsit street" and people have worried it has turned Birkenhead into a national laughing stock.

While the plans for a temporary one-way street went out for public feedback, designs for the road showed a cream-coloured base over which the yellow and orange markings would be painted on top. However the road has been left black.

A fly-through video published by the council also showed a number of trees being planted.

Wirral Council was asked to explain why the designs differed from reality but the local authority said it would be making no further comment on the matter.
