Blues hit with Carab-OW pain again
Liverpool Echo
|September 24, 2025
F there were any fears David Moyes did not care about the Carabao Cup, they were dispelled three minutes into the second half.
With Seamus Coleman seeking the ball for a throw-in down the left, the Scot leapt down the touchline to send one his way.
He had already made two changes at halftime in a bid to inspire his side towards an equaliser that could have led to a winner.
Before the hour mark he made two more, assembling his first choice attack on the pitch to launch an assault on the Wolves goal and to try and save Everton's hopes in a cup that had the potential to open up for the Blues.
The introduction of Beto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye - the quartet that put the same opponent to the sword at Molineux in the Premier League last month - did make a difference. The visitors dominated the ball.
Grealish drew three fouls in his first seven minutes on the pitch and then, from his fourth, James Garner struck the crossbar with the resulting free-kick.
But it was not enough.
By the time Moyes stepped into action, even though it came at the break, it was too late. Just like at Anfield at the weekend the damage was done in the first half an hour and just like in that match, Everton were unable to recover.
