£60,000 boost for cinema campaign

A CAMPAIGN to bring back Woolton Cinema has received a huge boost.

The cinema's doors temporarily reopened for its 12 days of Christmas campaign, raising £60,000 and welcoming thousands of visitors back through its doors for the first time in years.

Woolton Picture House, which originally opened in 1927 and is Liverpool's oldest single-screen cinema, has been closed since the covid-19 pandemic.

The ECHO previously reported how married couple Kevin Fearon and Gillian Miller agreed to buy it from with the building’s previous owner for £450,000, with a Community Interest Company set up to raise funds for the purchase and a further £250,000 to refurbish the historic cinema.
