DEVELOPMENTS WILL SEE FORMER LITTLEWOODS DATA CENTRE DEMOLISHED

TWO major tower blocks will be created on the site of one of Liverpool's most unique buildings after plans for more than 430 new city centre homes were given the green light.

The significant plans, from national rental developers Packaged Living, were brought before councillors on Liverpool Council's planning committee yesterday morning.

The applicants were seeking permission to knock down a distinctive building based at 122 Old Hall Street in the city's business district and replace it with hundreds of homes.

The building, formerly a secretive data centre for the running of the Moores family's Littlewoods Empire, has stood vacant for a decade.

Packaged Living's plans, which have now been agreed by the planning committee, will see the building pulled down and replaced by two tower blocked of 25 and 19 storeys respectively, comprising a total of 434 new one, two and three bed flats for the rental market.
