12-MONTH BAN IMPOSED FOR RECKLESS BID TO OVERTAKE

- By TOM MACK

A DELIVERY driver running late narrowly avoided a head-on collision that could have caused “lots of fatalities” as he tried to overtake a tractor towing a long trailer of hay bales.

Hussain Adam, 35, was driving a Mercedes Sprinter along the A6006 in Leicestershire.

The near miss happened at Wymeswold, near Loughborough, earlier this year.

Prosecutor Sukhy Basi told Leicester Magistrates’ Court last week: “On March 17 on the A6006 the defendant was driving his work van when he came across a line of traffic behind a tractor with a trailer with straw bales.

“The road had a 50mph speed limit and double white lines - you can’t overtake - and there are a lot of sharp bends.
