Cops expect trend to continue as women urged to report offences

NEW figures have revealed there have been more than 30 reported sex crimes at train stations across Staffordshire since 2022.

Figures obtained by Sexual Abuse Compensation Advice found in 2022, the British Transport Police logged 13 sex crimes at Staffordshire stations, the second-highest number of crimes over the past three years.

A year later, this fell to nine, although stations in the area have seen a rise in sex crimes over the past year, with 14. Despite this, many women do not report their experiences, often feeling scared or believing their experience won't be taken seriously.

BTP Detective Chief Inspector Nia Mellor said tackling sexual offences is 'our top priority'

She added: we take every report of sexual harassment or violence extremely seriously.
