Council leader backs raising of Union flags 'if appropriate'

Reform UK's leader at County Hall has vowed to support the raising of flags across Lancashire - as long as it is done in accordance with the law.

Operation Raise The Colours has seen people across the UK place St George's and Union flags in prominent locations as an attempt to display patriotic or civic pride.

But the campaign has been contentious, party due to the alleged links the group behind it has to Stephen Lennon, known as Tommy Robinson, and the former English Defence League.

A number of flags elsewhere in the UK have been placed in locations which local authorities have deemed to be unsafe, and there have been instances of the St George's flag painted onto roundabouts or other white surfaces which could be classed as vandalism.
