A massive data centre could be coming to Ayrshire as part of a £15billion investment across Central Scotland.

- PAUL BEHAN

The Standard can reveal that a planning application has been lodged and identified an area of land just north of HMP Kilmarnock for the project.

If approved, it could be part of the biggest cluster of data centres in the world.

The proposal, described as a "major application," seeks permission to build a data centre complex including "data halls, substation, new road access, balancing pond, security, associated development, landscaping, new trees and wildflower meadow."

The area of land in question is located at Purroch Farm, Mauchline Road, Hurlford, just north of the prison.

Logan Energy Project Management are involved in the scheme. They provide a range of engineering services to wind, solar, hydro and energy storage projects including feasibility, design, grid connection, consenting, construction project management and due diligence.
