St Gregory's celebrates Mary in May

THE traditional devotional ceremony of May Crowning has been celebrated at St Gregory's Catholic Primary in Margate.

The highlight of the rite is when a statue of the Virgin Mary is crowned with flowers, typically during the month of May.

Assistant head teacher Athanasia Papa-Adams explained: “We wholeheartedly embraced this lovely event - with May being a time when nature bursts into bloom, it is the perfect opportunity for us to reflect on Mary's role as a mother and a symbol of purity.”
