PAL JOEY has looked a handicap project from an early stage for Ben Haslam, showing improved form on his second start when third to Remooz (a winner off 98 on his handicap debut in July) before a luckless effort on his final qualifying run.

He improved further when making a successful handicap debut at Haydock fast time, beating Lord Abama by half a length with his ears pricked.

The Haydock race looks solid form at this stage and Lord Abama was again runner-up in a handicap last time back on a similar surface, so Pal Joey looks fairly handicapped having gone up 3lb for that success.

He is again partnered by the excellent Callum Rodriguez and ought to take another step forward.
