Nomination of Trump is a declaration of war on Nobel Peace Prize's storied history
Irish Daily Star
|July 12, 2025
THE nomination of the sabre-toothed Donald Trump feels like a declaration of war on the Nobel Peace Prize, a cynical carpet-bombing of the venerable 124-year-old award's validity, integrity, prestige and credibility.
A melting of logic and decency in the kiln of political opportunism, just the latest pathetic flourish designed to flatter an egomaniacal manchild whose requirement for grovelling sycophancy is as urgent and existential as his need for oxygen.
It amounts to a mocking two fingers - a loud-hailered “f**k you” - to the massacred and starving and displaced of Gaza.
A disregarding taunt to the people of Kyiv, cowering in flimsy shelters, praying they are not the bullseye for his buddy Putin's nightly swarm of terrifying missiles raining death on their besieged city.
And a declaration of contempt for the population of Los Angeles who have seen an authoritarian president unapologetically deploy the military against his own American citizenry.
Trump's idea of peace, as one observer pointed out this week, is the peace of the graveyard.
His nomination is absurd, counter-intuitive, immoral and plain wrong, the equivalent of shortlisting a crocodile for Vegan of the Year even as it feasts on some unfortunate swamp critter.
Trump, too, is carnivorous, bloodthirsty to gorge on the entrails of Canada, Greenland and Panama, a Caesar who demands that the entire planet defers to his totalitarian whims.
He was entirely serious, dollar signs flashing greedily in his eyes, when he floated the outrageous idea of emptying Gaza and transforming it into a luxury tourist resort, a Middle Eastern Disneyland, Vegas on the Med.
"Gaza is on the sea, it has the best climate, a phenomenal location. Everything is great...you can do incredible things with it. Fantastic things," he said.
Stopping the slaughter of the people who live there is apparently not among them.
INFANTILE
Trump's half-baked attempts at partial, undignified ceasefires were quickly and inevitably violated, even so-called humanitarian aid - and those desperate souls seeking it - considered a legitimate Israeli target.
