Six financial resolutions to make as a new year dawns

- BY RACHEL BERESFORD

MONEY MAKEOVER

THE start of a new year is the perfect opportunity to take control of your finances and build better money habits, but it can feel overwhelming to know where to begin.

"As households look ahead to 2026, clarity rather than dramatic change will be key to making smarter financial decisions," says Nick Charalambous, Financial Advisor at Alpha Wealth.

"Economic uncertainty may feel like the new normal, but there are still clear, practical ways to improve how your money works for you. You don't need dramatic sacrifices or complex plans.

"Small changes, made early and stuck with, can add up to real long-term gains."

Below are six financial resolutions that can make a big difference in the year ahead...

For many households, the simplest financial win at the start of the year is also the most overlooked: claiming tax back. Medical and dental expenses, prescription costs and rent tax credits for 2025 can be claimed from January, often resulting in a welcome cash injection.
