The game in every school Burns' primary aim

- By Paul Keane

GAA president Jarlath Burns reckons it's 'not an unreasonable thing' to want hurling on 'every single curriculum in every national school in Ireland'.

Burns was speaking at a Croke Park media briefing alongside new GAA head of hurling Willie Maher.

Tipperary native Maher, who won All-Ireland minor titles as a player and manager with his county, has been tasked with increasing participation levels in the game.

Maher revealed that 45 new hurling clubs have already been issued with starter packs.

Leinster has 18 new clubs, Ulster has 17, with five each in Munster and Connacht.

Maher said his 'north star' goal is to have equal participation rates throughout the island, as opposed to the current situation where the game is predominantly concentrated in the southern half.

"That's what we are working towards," said Maher.
