Suspended jail terms for women who laundered cash for gang

THREE women who laundered money for the alleged leaders of an organised crime gang avoided prison terms yesterday.

Annie Smith, 28, Jade Heeney, 27, and 29-year-old Marlena Aleksandrowicz admitted allowing their bank or Revolut accounts or both to be used by the Boylan Organised Crime Group.

At Dundalk Circuit Court, Judge Dara Hayes said they “committed serious offences facilitating the ill-gotten gains, although relatively small amounts, of the [gang].”

At a sentencing hearing last month, Gda John Walsh said Smith, of The Alders, Avourwen and Heeney, of Hill of Rath, both Drogheda, Co Louth, and Aleksandrowicz, of Bridgefield, Northwood, Santry, Dublin 9, committed the offences between 2020 to 2021.

He said all three had links to the Boylans and they were put under duress to launder money for the OCG.

The amounts involved were between €8,000 and €14,000.

Heeney was in a four-year relationship with Keith Boylan while Smith is a former partner of his brother Josh.
