'We pray for safe return of Gena'
Irish Daily Mirror
|August 06, 2025
THE family of an Irish woman kidnapped from an orphanage in Haiti asked people yesterday to keep them “in your hearts".
In a statement released by Department of Foreign Affairs, the family of Co Clare woman Gena Heraty said they were “still coming to terms with the awful news that Gena and seven others were kidnapped”.
They were snatched on Sunday.
The statement said: "We continue to work closely with Nos Petits Freres Et Soeurs in Haiti and Ireland, the Department of Foreign Affairs and international partners who have all assured us everything possible is being done to get Westport woman Gena, and those taken with her, safely released as soon as possible.
“Gena is loved and respected by so many, as is evident in the outpouring of concern, support and prayers. We are truly so grateful for all the messages of support.
