Callan calls out Claire's radio move

PRESENTER Oliver Callan has criticised colleague Claire Byrne still working for RTE, despite defecting to “cash machine” rival Newstalk, as “mad”.

It was announced last week that Byrne, 50, is to leave RTE later this year to launch anew mid-morning programme at Newstalk in early 2026.

RTE newsreader David McCullagh, 57, will replace her on the Today Show, which earned Byrne €280,000 in 2023, and yesterday said his pay will be €240,000.
