Troublemaker hurled missiles at police during riots outside city hotel

AN aggressive troublemaker hurled missiles at the police during serious scenes of rioting outside a hotel where asylum seekers were being housed and his "terrible" behaviour also included reaching in and stealing from a car that was being targeted by thugs.

Drug user Levi Burnham was there at the time that terrified men sitting inside the car were threatened and dragged out of the vehicle and a pile of tyres was set alight at a garage, Hull Crown Court heard.

Burnham, 29, of Nelson Court, off Wellington Street, in the Hull Marina area, admitted violent disorder and theft from a vehicle on August 3.

Stephen Welch, prosecuting, said that Burnham was part of a large-scale public disorder that broke out in Hull city centre. He was part of a group outside the Royal Hotel in Ferensway where asylum seekers were being housed at the time.
