FORMER 'CLASSIC BINGE DRINKER' AIMS TO SHOW THAT PEOPLE WHO 'DITCH THE BOOZE' CAN STILL GO OUT AND HAVE A GOOD TIME
A HULL man's personal journey to sobriety has inspired him to create a sober movement in his home city.
Henry Beercock has set up Alcohull Free, organising social events without the pressure to drink. He aims to show that people can still go out and have a good time without hitting the bottle - and wake up with a clear head the next day.
"Alcohull Free is a community I have created from my sober experience," said Henry, now over 500 days sober. "I run events for sober/sober curious people to help with loneliness through sobriety.
"I also do a lot of work promoting alcohol-free options at independent bars and restaurants to help in this difficult time for hospitality, to try and help create a new audience for them. This is all as a result of my own personal journey.
"In the last year I have lost over 7st, going from 18st to 11st, and I have completely transformed my life, physically and mentally. I have removed the booze, gone vegan, changed my bad habits and have completely transformed my outlook on health and wellbeing.
"I have done this all naturally and safely. I have gone from not being able to walk without getting back pain to having completed a half-marathon and am now signed up to the Berlin Marathon in September for Alcohol Change UK."
