62-YEAR-OLD ADMITTED ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER VICTIM SUFFERED FIVE STAB WOUNDS
AN angry and jealous husband repeatedly stabbed a male friend of his wife in a “determined and ferocious attack” after going round to confront the man at his home after midnight - while she was there.
The panicking woman desperately tried to grab her husband’s arm as he wielded the 30cm knife and she also bit him on his hand in a bid to stop the frenzied attack on the other man. The victim ended up in intensive care and it was only by good fortune and her bravery that he was not killed, Hull Crown Court heard.
Ian Pemberton, 62, of Cliff Road, Hornsea, admitted attempted murder on August 26. He pleaded guilty on the day of a scheduled trial.
David Godfrey, prosecuting, said Pemberton and his wife had been married for 18 years at the time but, by August last year, their relationship was breaking down and arguments had become a common feature. Pemberton was struggling with jealousy issues, including over a male friend of hers who lived nearby. Tensions continued.
After the couple returned home after a night out drinking, he wanted to talk to her about matters and persisted in doing so. She told him that the relationship was over.
