IN 1981, I sat with my parents watching the first London Marathon on television, inspired by the courage and spirit of the runners.

I never imagined that, decades later and living with metastatic cancer, I could be on that start line myself.
For me, applying for the London Marathon was an act of hope - a fitness dream and a way of focusing on taking life one day at a time.
My training was a slow, steady process, starting with short runs and gradually building up, always with a friend or family member by my side.
