Complaints after slower finishers didn't receive medals

A dozen or so of the last finishers at the Porthcawl 10k on Sunday missed out on medals, as the supply had run out before the end of the race.

The incident is said to have left some runners feeling "demoralised", with one participant reported to have left the event in floods of tears after suffering an injury moments into the race which caused her to run at a slower pace.

Run4Wales - which organised the Porthcawl 10k - was criticised for the same problem at its Barry 10k in June.

In that instance, participants took to social media to complain that not everyone had received a medal or T-shirt upon completing the race.

After this weekend's 10k Emma Wilson, 49, from Abercynon, who ran in both races, said: "I've finished two races now and I'm so happy with myself that I've done it - but not being able to celebrate and take a photo of myself with a medal because I didn't get one is upsetting."

Before she hit the first kilometre, Emma sustained an injury but decided to push through and make it to the finish line.

She added: "I had to walk the rest of the race, just thinking, 'I need to finish this. With determination and grit, I did.
