Sugar production likely to rise by 18% in 2025-26

INDIA'S SUGAR PRODUCTION is expected to rise by 18% to 34.90 million tonnes (MT) in the 2025-26 season (October-September), compared to the current season, due to adequate monsoon rains.
This increase would allow exports of 2 MT and diversion of 5 MT for ethanol manufacturing, the Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) said on Thursday.
Sugar production is estimated at 29.50 MT in the current 2024-25 season, a five-year low, partly due to the diversion of 3.4 MT for ethanol production.
