Peak District could get 'red routes' to tackle motorists' inconsiderate parking

ALSO PLANS FOR LIMITED WAITING AND PAY-AND-DISPLAY BAYS
DERBYSHIRE County Council is considering introducing a parking ban on several roads in the Peak District.
In a bid to help locals and reduce disruption for travellers, the council is looking to make several roads around Castleton village 'red routes'.
'Red routes' prohibit parking at any time on several roads. There are also plans to introduce new limited waiting bays and new pay-and-display parking bays.
While they are already in use in several other parts of the UK, the red routes would be a first in Derbyshire.
The council said the measures were being considered after a higher number of yearly visitors in Castleton caused concerns, especially around inconsiderate parking.
The red routes have now been brought forward as part of a proposal issued by Derbyshire County Council and Castleton Parish Council.
Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for potholes, highways and transport, Councillor Charlotte Hill, said: "Our road safety team have been working with Castleton Parish Council to try and identify ways to better manage parking in the village.
"Castleton is a beautiful place to visit, but the roads were never designed for the kinds of traffic volumes - and the size of vehicles - that we see today.
"For the past few years, there have been concerns about inconsiderate parking, and some motorists not understanding the restrictions that are currently in place.
"We hope that our proposals will help local people, make things clearer for visitors and reduce disruption to help make sure visitors enjoy the beauty of our county.
