How good for Rams to miss out on the merry-go-round

And now it seems Charlton Athletic are sweating on the future of Nathan Jones, who the BBC claim remains in contention for the big job with Cardiff City, despite Charlton winning promotion, Cardiff being relegated and the former being able to demand “a significant compensation fee” that is whispered to be around the £1m mark.

Jones made plenty of noise about loving the project with Charlton in the run-up to and since the play-off final but, as we know, in football, that does not always count for everything.

Out of work bosses Des Buckingham, Ian Evatt, Brian Barry-Murphy and current caretaker Aaron Ramsey have all reportedly been interviewed for the Bluebirds job but Ruben Selles, fresh from being sacked by Hull, is said to have ruled himself out as he wants to stay in the Championship.

Manning has made the move to Norwich having just guided Bristol City to their first top six finish at this level in 17 years, so now they are looking too.

Norwich will have to stump up compensation of about £800,000 and are likely also to take on his coaches Chris Hogg and James Krause.

He will take over from Johannes Hoff Thorup and inherit a squad that finished 13th, despite being the division’s second-highest scorers.
