ACCUSED WAITED UNTIL THE DAY OF TRIAL BEFORE PLEADING GUILTY TO THE ASSAULT

- By MARTIN NAYLOR

A DERBY dad “flipped” his ex-partner in a move she described as “like a wrestling hold” as her children screamed at him to stop.

Derby Crown Court heard how Mark Edwards had earlier turned up at her city home against her will when she was hosting friends and assaulted her outside when he was asked to leave.

The 41-year-old, of Sunny Hill, then got into her home the following morning to collect some belongings when he grabbed her the second time.

But in the 14 months since the incidents happened he has got a job, stopped drinking spirits and now only goes out once a fortnight “to play pool and have a couple of lager tops”.

Alex Wolfson, prosecuting, said Edwards and the victim had been in a relationship which had ended around three years ago although at the time of the incidents there had been “an attempt at reconciliation”.
