10 fascinating facts about Repton

1. On the outskirts of the village on Main Street is The Grange, an imposing three-storey Queen Anne house built in 1703 for Joseph Holbrook, a former lord mayor of London.

2. When Roald Dahl attended Repton School, he and his schoolfriends were used to test and rate new chocolate products by Cadbury, the chocolate maker, before going to market. It is believed that this is where he got his inspiration for writing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

3. For many years, the village fish and chip shop acted as a reminder of the classic film Goodbye Mr Chips, which was shot at Repton School in 1938 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, when it went under the name of Goodbuy Mr Chips.
