Rory told Seve would be proud as he surpasses legend's tour win tally

- BY DALE RANKIN

RORY MCILROY was in dreamland after surpassing Seve Ballesteros by winning a seventh Race to Dubai title.

The Northern Irish ace lost out in a playoff with Matt Fitzpatrick fgor the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

McIlroy sank a dramatic final-hole eagle in Dubai to haul himself level with the Sheffield star on 18 under.

But he handed his Ryder Cup teammate a third win in the event when he found the water with his drive on the first extra hole and could only manage a bogey six.

But McIlroy had already sealed the season-long crown to eclipse the late Ballesteros' tally of six and move one behind Scottish record-holder Colin Montgomerie.
