Vapers overtake smokers in UK

MORE people are now vaping than smoking in Britain for the first time.

The Office for National Statistics found the number of over-16s using e-cigarettes daily or occasionally was 5.4million, overtaking tobacco smokers at 4.9million.

The biggest fall in smoking was among young adults with 8.1 per cent smoking in 2024, down from 25.7 per cent in 2011. Smoking rates in the four UK nations were 12 per cent in Scotland, 10.4 per cent in England, 11.4 per cent in Wales and 10.5 per cent in Northern Ireland.
